Payten, Liv and James were back in town to tell us about "The Afterlife", at least from the PhD experience -
We started off the fall semester with a bang at Mory's with distinguished visitors (Payten, Liv and James) plus a few significant others. Payten and Liv were kind enough to catch a few precious items we left behind in KCL101 in the frenzied move a month ago. -
The group gathering at Paradise Hills came a little early this year to send Hannah Buttkus back to Germany and welcome Fabian's family visiting for a tour of New England. -
Chris Johnson, Sean Eddington, and Anne McCoy joined up with Hyun and Erica at the Vibrational Spectroscopy GRC in New Hampshire. Sean, Chris and Anne all gave invited talks and Hyun walked away with a best poster prize...quite a haul! -
Congratulations to Hyun Wook Choi for getting one of the best poster awards at the Vibrational Spectroscopy GRC! Hyun presented his excellent work on boron clusters from his work with Lai-Sheng. He was also a co-author of our poster (along with Erica, Anne McCoy, Yarra Hassan, and Abhi) on the design and performance of the ion trap hat trick now on New Tinman and its application to monohydrated 4-ABA isomers. -
Keeping the Ixtapa tradition alive! This time it was James, Anna, and Hyun's turn to wear the sombrero! -
A multi-generational group away team converged at the ASMS meeting in San Diego. Andrew DeBlase, Helen Zeng and Liv Moss joined Fabian Menges along with Payten Harville, who just happened to arrive in town to start her postdoc at UCSD. -
The group gathered at the top of the Omni to celebrate James Breton's outstanding thesis defense. We were joined by visitors Burak Tufekci from Kit Bowen's lab and Alexandra Tsoukala from Radboud University in The Netherlands, who both shared their work with back-to-back group seminars. -
Abhijit Rana is awarded The Wolfgang Prize recognizing the most outstanding Chemistry PhD Thesis of the year. Congratulations Abhi, on this well-deserved recognition. And let's not forget that the 4-ABA journey was a team effort and so this award also goes to acknowledge the important contributions from Nan Yang, Thien Khuu and Payten Harville. -
Erica, Madeeha and Mark join up with Anne McCoy at the Molecular and Ionic Clusters GRC in Tuscany. It was a week with weather to complement great chemistry! Erica was co-chair of the accompanying GRS where Madeeha gave an invited talk. Both presented well-attended posters at the GRC meeting -

The group enjoyed an excellent evening atop the Omni hotel to celebrate two outstanding thesis defense lectures and another one on the way. -
Erica and Hyun drive NT into new territory with tag-free IR/UV spectroscopy in the cryotrap. With the hand-off to new crew members complete, the summer looks very bright for our next phase of kinetics experiments. -
Chris Johnson dropped by to give us a personal signing and presentation about his new book! This is a much-needed how-to reference for all who want Python to enhance our work without not investing weeks lost in code-land. Thanks Chris!! -
Mark and Gary took to the road to join Ralf Ludwig in Rostock for his 65th birthday symposium. Then they met up with Gereon Niedner-Schatteburg to work on joint manuscripts and see the sights of Berlin. -
